Summer is officially here and I could not be more excited! This is the season of sunshine, barbecues, pool parties and trips!  Oh and did I mention the shopping before traveling? 🙂

The key for the great trip is to pack well. Packing too much can burden your trip and cloud your mind, leaving you to deal more with the stuff than with enjoying your experience. It’s pretty hard to pack too little, but when this happens, you spend too many brain cells thinking about that one thing you wish I had.

You can pack the same when you’re traveling for a week or longer, no matter how long you’re gone or where you’re going. Here are some proposals for core essentials:

TOPS

Simple solid-colored tops are versatile, lightweight, and pack tightly, so bring 4-6 of them. Combine them with a skirt or jeans.

SKIRTS

Simple a-line skirts look good on almost any body type, and are easy to pack as well. Take about 3 skirts, also of various weights.

NICE FLATS AND SANDALS

Bring 3 pair of shoes—a pair of comfortable flats, a pair of nicer-looking sandals, and a pair of flip-flops. They can each be worn with all the clothes in your bag, depending on where you’re going. Key: They must be comfortable. Must. And wear the heaviest pair on the plane, so you don’t have to pack them.

SHIRT

You may think anything long-sleeved is a no-go, but a shirt could be perfect to keep you covered up during the evening chill. It also looks great tied around the waist, or undone over denim shorts.

DRESS

If you’re out all day and night and want an easy piece that will carry you through, the dress comes in so many prints and colours this season.

BASIC ACCESSORIES

Keep your accessories simple, small and durable if you want to look nice during your trip. Here you are a proposal for essential accessories:

  • a lightweight scarf (it really does make everything dressier)
  • a pair of stud and a pair of dangle earrings
  • a few necklaces
  • a bracelet
  • sunglasses
  • a hair accessory, like a headband or clip
  • one, durable-yet-not-utilitarian-looking purse/bag
